The Cougar Effect

We're Flaunting It

We got so tired of hearing about cougars. Not the endangered animal, but rather middle-aged women on the prowl for younger men. But it looks like the meme is a win for us women of a certain age.

According to Stylist, women in their 40s and 50s are grabbing racy lingerie that reflects their self-confidence and sexiness.

Celebrity cougars, including Elle Macpherson (47) and Liz Hurley (44), have made this trend hotter with their own lingerie lines. But it's probably uber-cougar Courtney Cox of the unfortunately named Cougartown who has done the most to revamp our image.

But we're not all built like Courtney, are we? Lane Bryant has a hot new line of accoutrements for the ample heaving bosom. For something truly special — and truly well-fitting — check out Certain Style. The line originated in the UK and opened a branch in Florida last year.

Certain Style founder Lesley Charalambides, who says she's 50-something, tells us, "There is no better age, because with the kids grown up, it's time to recapture the romance that got you together in the first place. Now you have more time for each other, better taste, and —usually — more money."

Ooh la la!

Too bad Hollywood still lags behind. Have you seen the poster for the Sex and the City sequel? As the Huffington Post complains, Sarah Jessica Parker, 45, and Kim Cattral, 53, are practically unrecognizable. Cattral looked just great in The Ghost Writer, even with spooky lighting. At least, there's a backlash against this needless touching up.

So flaunt those bosoms proudly, my friends. They're still gorgeous.
