Order what you love to eat on a first date.

You've got a lot to think about on a first date, like what to wear, where to go, how much money to bring, and how to ask for a second date. Romantic meals should be filled with gazing into each other's eyes and enjoying great conversation.

But if you order the wrong thing, you'll be chewing and chomping during dinner instead of laughing and chatting. You don't want that. Here are some ideas on the best dinner date meals to order.

Romantic Meals Don't Include Spaghetti

Forget about Lady and the Tramp! That movie was about cartoon dogs, which is why the spaghetti scene was so cute. In real life, the girl would have spaghetti sauce on her face while the boy would look at her horrified.

When ordering on a first date, think about the mechanics of the meal. Do you need to slurp or chew endlessly to get your food down? Then skip it for a different choice. The right food should allow you to take small enough bites where you can participate in the conversation.

Don't Order What You Think You Should Order

Too often women, especially, will order something like a salad when what they really want is a burger with fries. When placing an order, don't allow thoughts of impressing your date enter the picture.

The way you impress your date is by being comfortable with yourself, so if a burger is what your palate wants, order up! (Just make sure you can talk and carry on a conversation without grease dripping down your chin.)

Avoid Foods That Get Stuck In Your Teeth

Greens like spinach and things like poppy seeds are notoriously for getting stuck in your teeth. So skip things like salad. When you finish your meal, you should be able to smile and continue chatting without digging out your dental floss and toothbrush.

Don't Order the Most Expensive or Cheapest Thing on the Menu

Regardless of who pays, it's a good idea not to order the most expensive thing on the menu. You don't know what your date's financial situation is, and ordering something huge could throw a wrench into the rest of the night.

Some daters believe that if they order something "cheap," they will come off as more agreeable to their date. But you should order what you most want to eat. Don't order based on trying to impress or appear a certain way to a date.

Order What You Love

The purpose of a first date is to show someone how fun you are. You want your date to see all those character traits that make you a unique person. Those are the things that they will fall in love with, so when you order, one way to show that side of yourself is to order what you love to eat. The satisfaction that comes with foods you enjoy will carry over to the way you handle yourself on the date.
