Susan Sarandon stars in the upcoming movie Arbitrage, where she plays the savvy wife of filthy-rich investor and silver-haired fox Richard Gere. Yet these days the real love of her life is Penny, a Pomeranian Maltese.
Although her name has been linked to various men since the breakup of her 23-year relationship with Tim Robbins that produced two children, Sarandon has remained a single mom to Penny and another pom-malty pup, Rigby.
A pampered celebrity pet, Susan Sarandon's Penny goes everywhere with the actress, including the set of her movies. "The other one is a nightmare, so I can't bring her," she she told People magazine.
When the actress has the opportunity, she snaps a shot of Penny with a famous person. All the photos are gathered in scrapbooks. On the David Letterman show Sarandon proudly displayed the scrapbooks. Among the famous faces with Penny were the Obama family and the Jonas Brothers.
In addition to the family pet Susan Sarandon treasures, Penny is a fellow thespian. Her acting credits include two cameo appearances in Saturday Night Live digital shorts with Andy Sandberg and Justin Timberlake, two appearances on the show Rescue Me, and a walk-on in Bernard and Doris, which also starred Sarandon.
Has Penny turned into something of a diva? Sarandon admits the well-groomed star doesn't always get along with Rigby. "They trash talk each other for absolutely no reason," she said. "I guess because they're sick of living together."
