Pat Robertson: Til Alzheimer's Do Us Part

Dear Kiss & Zutell,

I just read that the "Reverend" Pat Robertson says it's okay for someone to date others if their spouse is afflicted with Alzheimer's.  He further claims it's alright to divorce the Alzheimer's victim. When asked about the vow of "in sickness and in health" he said you get a free pass if you make arrangements for custodial care.

A mother mourns her Marine son

Dear Kiss & Zutell

Prompted by the September 11 attacks, my son enlisted in the Marines. He was killed in Iraq. I know several other parents who also lost children in the wars. Honestly, I'm not sure why my son died, other than it was completely unnecessary. How many hundreds of thousands of our young men died fighting both Japan and Viet Nam? Now those nations - and their people - once reviled as fiends by "patriots," are among our best friends and biggest trading partners.

As the 10th anniversary of 9/11 approaches, I have to write about something that has had me simmering for all ten years. I'm not just a New Yorker, I live in Manhattan. I watched the twin towers fall and lost a very close friend in the disaster. My sister lives in Los Angeles.
