Make exercise a family affair. “If parents do it, then kids are going to do it,” says exercise physiologist Walter Thompson, chair of the American College of Sports Medicine’s American Fitness Index advisory board. Here are some activities that everyone can do:
Walking is not just for dogs anymore! Our family walks everywhere within a 10 mile raius of our house. On those rare occasions when we give into our craving for fast food, we walk there and back! Walking is green, free, and you can prettymuch do it for the rest of your life, with or without companions!
i like all these neighborhood ideas! this year, instead of a typical beer-drinking and bbq block party, we did organize a sort of "olympics" for the kids, gave them lots of fruit, turkey burgers, high-fiber pretzels (instead of chips), and dole fruit bars for meals (they thought they were popsicles), and honestly they had a great time! the best thing about kids is that they just want a fun activity, and when they're hungry, they eat anything you put in front of them. i would really recommend doing this, we're definitely sticking with this plan!
