Write a Better Essay
If you're not having success at online dating, one reason could be the lousy essay you have on your profile. If your essay doesn't reflect your personality, it will be skipped over by potential daters. Harsh, I know. But true.
Don't try to "sound" a certain way. Instead, write your essay as if you're writing an email to a friend. Talk about why you like something, rather than just listing a bunch of qualities you think people want to hear.
In my book, Internet Dating Is Not Like Ordering a Pizza, I offer several examples of what to say to give some flavor to your profile. Here's one: For example, talking about restaurants is a great idea, because chances are you'll spend part of your time dating out at your favorite place. But instead of saying, "I like XYZ Restaurant," say something like this instead:
"I enjoy sushi and Thai food, but hey, a quaint little place with a great atmosphere will always lure me in. I like the charming, dimly lit places where you're about six inches from the people next to you and then end up talking to them throughout dinner as if they're long lost friends."
