Okay, there may not be a lot of excitement in looking at worms, but a worm bin can teach important lessons about the environment and how everything is connected. You put garbage in — coffee grounds, vegetable scraps, newspaper and cardboard — and get beautiful, rich earth out. Let the grandkids spread the worm compost on the garden and then plant peas in the fall or beans in the spring.
