Celebrity Vow Renewals Curse

A vow renewal is a way for a couple to celebrate their marriage with a party like a wedding but without the big dress or clergy. Often couples plan one to mark a milestone like an anniversary. High-profile celebrities do it, too. Is it a curse or a coincidence that within a year of the vow renewal, many boldface names split — or was their vow renewal a last-ditch attempt to save a dying relationship?

Vow Renewal Couple: Madonna & Guy Ritchie

Wed in 2001 in an elaborate ceremony in a Scottish castle after the 2000 birth of son Rocco, the Material Girl (54)  retired to a genteel life in the English countryside with director Guy Ritchie (44) in the early years of their marriage. In 2008, they renewed their vows at a private Kabbalah ceremony, where they both donned white robes. Divorce and acrimony followed in 2009, after Ritchie described the marriage as "a soap opera" and Madonna sang "I tried to be a good girl/I tried to be your wife/Diminished myself/And I swallowed my light/I tried to become all...And if it was a failure/I don’t give a ----" in a subsequent album.
