If the thought of dating again gives you one thought (what will I say!), it's time to brush up on your small talk skills. Learning how to chat comfortably with someone is a key part of connecting while on a date. Here are some conversation tips for those new to the dating scene.
Let's face it, the subject of ex's does comes up during dates, so you should be prepared with what you're going to say ahead of time. Remember, dating isn't the same as therapy, so you shouldn't use the time to ponder all the reasons you aren't with your ex.
Instead, be ready with a short answer as to why you're not with an ex, and what you hope will happen with a new relationship. For example, if you and your ex fought over whether or not to have children, you could say, "My ex and I wanted different things, but I'm looking forward to finding someone I share more in common with."
Or, if an ex cheated on you, say something like, "My ex cheated on me, and I believe in fidelity" rather than "That no good so-and-so ruined my life!"
In other words, even if you're still hurting from the breakup, be positive when you're talking to your date.
