Franklin D. Roosevelt

Franklin D. Roosevelt and his wife, Eleanor Roosevelt, were known for social reforms to help the poor – but grew up privileged  themselves. FDR (president from 1933 to 1945) and his wife had six children. FDR was an only child himself. At 23, he married Eleanor (the niece of President Theodore Roosevelt and a debutante who volunteered in the New York slums). The longest-serving U.S. president reportedly conducted an extramarital affair with his wife's social secretary. Here the president and his family pose in 1938.
