Just the thought of separate vacations can scare some couples, who fear that time away will lead to divorce. Separate vacations can work out fine for couples who are communicating well and agree on the circumstances for vacationing separately.

The short answer is that time away in this manner will not lead to divorce, but can magnify other problems that already exist. Things like resentment over having to watch the kids alone or spending money that could go toward a family vacation will surface when one person vacations separately.
