Just as every marriage goes through ups and downs, every spouse does too. Perhaps one person is sad due to a personal issue, like loss of job or new health problem. Maybe a long-awaited goal has not been met, and as a result one person is not their usual, happy self.

If you schedule time away because your spouse's mood is dragging you down, it may mean the beginning of the end for your relationship. Part of marriage is helping each other through life's hardships, and if your spouse thinks you've bailed when they needed you most, they may leave.
