Why Do People Play the Lottery?

Do you play the lottery? You've probably heard all the negative points of playing (like, the odds are against you, for example), but for many people it's a fun way to dream to each week. What would you buy if you could win?

The Allure of the Lottery

People do play the lottery, and what's more, a few of them win. With news that the Powerball jackpot is the 4th largest in history ($320 million) I suspect many (like me) will buy a ticket. But why?

Part of the allure has to do with the dream. What will do you with the money? How will it change your life for the better?

We imagine the things we'd get, the people we'd help, and they way we'd live our lives. It's a fantasy for most people, and unlike other types of dreams you can have an "active" part in making it happen. At least, that's what it feels like when you buy a ticket.
