Do you play the lottery? You've probably heard all the negative points of playing (like, the odds are against you, for example), but for many people it's a fun way to dream to each week. What would you buy if you could win?
Then there are the stories of lottery winners who went broke and worse, which quite frankly, I don't understand. It's hard for me to imagine having a pile of money and within a short time being penniless or having all my friends gone.
To me, these stories show what happens when people live their lives out of control. They look at lottery winnings like some sports players look at their first big salary signing... like it's never going to end. But there is a limit, especially when there are taxes and annuity payments, and spreading your money out over time.
